One hurt in shooting, nearly a dozen shots fired

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Rockford Police are investigating a shooting in Rockford’s midtown area where at least one person has been injured.

Rockford Police say officers responded to the 100 block of Broadway for a car accident when they simultaneously received calls for a shooting victim about a block away. Officers then found a man in the 1500 block of Magnolia Street who had been shot in the arm.

Witnesses in the area told police they saw two vehicles chasing each other just before the incident. Another witness told police that while the cars were chasing one another they heard gunshots. One of the vehicles crashed into two parked vehicles in the 100 block of Broadway and the second vehicle fled the area.

Investigators say the victim officers found was inside the vehicle traveling on Broadway when the shots were fired. The victim was shot in the arm at which point his vehicle crashed and he and the other occupants of the vehicle fled on foot.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rockford Police Department or Winnebago County Crime Stoppers.

Witnesses in the area of Orange Street and Broadway say at least ten gunshots were fired and there is at least one victim.

The original call was for a shooting at 15th and Magnolia Street, but the investigation is now concentrated at Orange Street and Broadway.

Rockford Police tell us the victim has non-life threatening injuries.
