UPDATE: Belvidere woman charged in connection with death of a bicyclist

UPDATE: BOONE COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) - A 27-year-old Belvidere woman is charged in connection with the death of 53-year-old James Day back in September 2017.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office says Victoria Swanson allegedly hit and killed Day who was riding a bike in the 5400 block of Squaw Prairie Road just before 7 p.m. on Sept. 19. Day was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Swanson's arrest comes after an extensive investigation according to Boone County authorities. Swanson was indicted by a Boone County Grand Jury on March 19 for reckless homicide.

Swanson is charged with one count of reckless homicide. She has been released from the Boone County Jail after posting bond. She is considered innocent until proven guilty.

Swanson faces two to five years behind bars.

BOONE COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- A man is dead after he's hit by a van while riding his bicycle in Boone County.

Authorities say the man was riding his bike in the 5400 block of Squaw Prairie Road around 6:40 Tuesday evening when he was hit by the van and thrown from his bike.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he later died. At this time Boone County Sheriff's Deputies do not believe alcohol played a factor in the crash. It is still under investigation.
