WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) – Election officials are reviewing thousands of ballots cast in Winnebago County in a race decided by just 47 votes. That’s how much incumbent John Guevara lost his county board seat by to Dan Fellars.

The recount doesn’t change the outcome of the election, but can be used as a basis to contest the results in court.

The results should be finalized by the end of the day Wednesday.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – In a stunning turn of events, mail-in ballots may be enough to reverse the initial outcome of the Winnebago County Board District 19 race.

Following Tuesday night's tally, incumbent Republican John Guevara had a 75-vote lead over Democrat Dan Fellars. But after checking the mail-in votes Wednesday morning, Fellars now has a 24-vote lead over Guevara who said he would have to contact the State’s Board of Elections to go over his options of a possible recount.
