Magpie owner begins clean-up

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Nearly three weeks after a fire destroys the Hanley Furniture building, the businesses connected to the historic building say they are now getting their first look inside their shops.

Owner of Magpie, Stephanie Caltagerone say she's waited weeks to get back into her shop, seeing for the first time the damage and the amount of clean-up that lies ahead.

She says since the fire back on June 25, she's gone through several emotions trying to cope with the loss and trying to make plans to move forward.

"It's been kind of a roller coaster of emotions since then. Certainly I've been angry and worried and worried about my staff, worried about, you know, I just opened the business a year and a half ago and now I get to do it all over again," says Caltagerone.

Demolition crews are still working to complete the tear down of the building. The city says they are working with their legal team and insurer to determine what to do with the last standing wall that connected Magpie to the Hanley building.
