Long-time Alderman, Frank Beach, reacts to new Rockford Mayor

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A lot has changed in the stateline over the last 24 hours. None more so than in Rockford, where May 1st will bring a new Mayor to the Forest City for the first time in over a decade. As well as a new party majority on city council and half the council will be first time aldermen.

23 News spoke with the only current Rockford City Council member who was around for the John McNamara Administration.

Frank Beach has spent nearly four decades representing Rockford's tenth ward. In fact, Tom's father, John, became Mayor the same year that Beach first served on the council in 1981. Now 36 years later, Beach says it would be a mistake to consider Mayor-Elect Tom McNamara simply a chip off the old block.

"Tom is his own man, and he's got energy and a quick mind", says Beach. "So I haven't seen, you know he's from the family, I'm sure there's been influence there, but Tom certainly stands on his own two feet."
