Local survivor recounts 9/11 on the 16th anniversary

DIXON, Ill. (WIFR) -- Each year around this time can be especially difficult for one local 9/11 survivor. On this September 11th he just wants to make sure we never forget this day and those who lost their lives.

Carroll was working on the 105th floor of the south tower when the first plane hit. While co-workers were told to remain in their offices, he went outside the building to return a phone call. That would be the call he says he owes his life to. He still has his brief case from that day and has the bill showing the phone call he received that he says saved his life.

Carroll battles with P.T.S.D. and several health issues related to 9/11. Carroll spoke at NIU last year for Memorial Day. He gave his speech in his clothes he wore on 9/11.

Carroll has filed claims for the 9/11 victim compensation fund. He says he has not received any assistance to date.
