ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A local group is stepping in to make sure everyone can make it home for the holidays.
Metro Medical Services helps several people get a trip home on Christmas Day.
Each year the EMTs give free rides for people without transportation so they can be with their families.
"I had a girl with learning disabilities who I picked up, and as soon as we entered her neighborhood, she lit up like a Christmas tree", says Harrison Barnhart, an EMT for Metro Medical Services. "No one wants to be away from their family for the holidays, but when you put something like that in perspective and you see just the joy of it, it's rewarding".
Each year the drivers switch off for the eight hour shift.
