Local church raising money to make improvements to its parish and school

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A local church's campaign to raise $8 million for improvements to its parish and school has now surpassed the halfway point of its goal.

Since the beginning of this year, Holy Family Catholic Church raised $4.6 million. That's according to pastor Phillip Kaim. Through the campaign, the church wants to upgrade the school and parish office. As well as improve the parking lot, enhance the worship space and build a new fellowship hall.

According to Kaim, the church hasn't seen much maintenance since it was founded more than 50 years ago. He believes the fellowship hall may bring more millennials back.

Kaim says, “while we would acknowledge that many of them are not going to church in the numbers that we would like, there's still this great hungering for community and wanting a sense of community and we think a modern fellowship hall will provide that.”

Kaim hopes to reach the $8 million goal by the end of April.
