ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- One local organization is working to keep our region clean by preventing clothing items from getting into landfills while giving back to those in need.
Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful hosted its spring clothing drive this weekend. Gently used clothing that was collected will be donated to Goodwill that will be sold at a lower price for those in need. Clothing that is not wearable will be recycled into cleaning cloths that will then be donated to car washes and other cleaning services.
"We do know that from surveys that we are keeping 85 percent of the clothing that would end up in the landfill out of the landfill and that’s what's so important to us is to not continue to be putting things into our landfill,” said director of development and communications for Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Beverly Broyles.
Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful says they are always looking for more volunteers. They will be hosting another clothing drive this fall and are hoping to expand its services in Rockton.
