JANESVILLE (WIFR) -- Janesville Police are going above their normal duties to make families feel safe by literally shining a light on problem areas.
Officers went door-to-door installing new light bulbs for families in the Look West Neighborhood on the city's west side. It's all part of the program Operation Porch Light. Cops replaced porch lights for about 120 homes. Officers say when homes are well lit criminals are more likely to stay away because there aren't enough dark places for them to hide.
All of the light bulbs were donated by area businesses.
This is the second time the department has done Operation Porch Light. Last year they gave more than 500 light bulbs to people in the Fourth Ward.
