Jaimie Cox marks seventh Rockford officer killed in the line of duty

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Officer Jaimie Cox marks the seventh Rockford police officer killed in the line of duty since 1917.

Cox is the first killed since Detective Kevin Darrel Rice, Sr. in August of 2001. Rice was off duty at the time of this death. He was driving to his sister's house when he saw something suspicious. Rice pulled over two men to ask them some questions and one of the men shot Rice six times. The shooter, William Buck, was convicted and sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder.

Other officers killed include Patrol Officer Randall A. Blank (1980), Patrol Officer Charles Jeffery Williams (1972), Patrol Officer Arthur Bassett (1927), Patrol Officer Frank Cichella (1927) and Patrol Officer Lorenzo Gillogly (1917).
