Holiday rush for UPS deliveries

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WIFR) - With the holidays right around the corner, many people are getting ahead on their Christmas shopping by buying gifts online, but that's causing some UPS deliveries to get behind.

UPS expects to break records this holiday season by delivering nearly 750 million packages. The Rockford UPS hub hired thousands of employees to help with the hustle and bustle.

Many delivery drivers say they are delivering multiple packages to homes on their regular routes. Some drivers even get help to speed up the delivery process.

"Some drivers take helpers. All they do is take the packages from the truck to the door. And the driver sheets them and selects them from the back," says UPS service provider Erin Knox.

UPS is adding one or two days shipping time to some packages and drivers will take on more routes during peak times to help speed up the process.
