ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A former college professor and current healthcare worker is hoping to gain a new title – 16th District Congressman.
Dr. Neill Mohammad taught politics at the University of Michigan and now he’s making his first jump into politics running for the congressional seat currently held by Adam Kinzinger. The Democrat from DeKalb has spent the last seven years as a healthcare management consultant and believes he has a different perspective than most on what he considers to be his top issue – health care.
“The way we do health care in this country is so screwy and it's so deeply connected to so many other things. You know what's the single biggest hurdle for somebody opening their own business? Well it's someone wondering, hey I've got kids at home, If I leave my job and start a new business I'm not going to have health care for a while potentially, let’s talk about the dollar and cents of health care and I think that's where we're going to start to get the traction for real reform by bringing people into the process such as myself who understand the game and understand, like I said, how the sausage is made,” says Dr. Neill Mohammad – (D) 16th District Congressional candidate.
There’s still over a year and a half before the 2018 midterms and Dr. Mohammad is not the only candidate to officially file papers. Fellow Democrat Natan Arroyave has also entered the race.
