FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) – If we’ve ever wanted to join the Freeport Police Department, now’s the chance as they look to fill five open positions.

The Freeport Police Department says due to turnover and retirement they are looking to fill up to five officer positions in the Pretzel city. The department says they have been posting the openings on social media as well as talking face-to-face to officers already on the force to see if they’d know of anyone interested. Freeport Police Chief Todd Barkalow says he is looking for someone who wants to give back to their community.

“We know that in the Freeport area, and we’ve got a lot of local talent, that I would like to tap in to we’re finding maybe not as many candidates, but I still think that we’ll get some really good young candidates,” says Chief Barkalow.

Chief Barkalow says they will be accepting applications through the end of October before testing on November 11th. Applications are available at the Freeport Police Department at 320 W. Exchange Street in Freeport or on www.cityoffreeport.com. For more information, call 815-599-5840.
