Five guns are recovered when four people are arrested in Freeport

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - Four people are arrested on felony firearms charges following a Freeport traffic stop Friday.

The Freeport Police Department Gang Unit says it received a tip that several people in a Jeep illegally had guns.

When police made a traffic stop in the area of Adams and Liberty avenues, they found that one person had a loaded pistol and there were four other loaded pistols in the passenger compartment of the Jeep.

Investigators say two of the pistols were stolen, the serial number of one pistol was destroyed and two are being investigated.

21-year-old Garyeon Howard, of Chicago, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (immediately accessible and no FOID), defacing identification marks of firearms and FOID required.

18-year-old Nyreek Bruce, of Chicago, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (immediately accessible, no FOID, under age 21 and cannabis violation), FOID required and unlawful possession of cannabis (10-30 grams).

18-year-old Marquaveon Wilson, of Freeport, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (immediately accessible, no FOID and under age 21) and FOID required.

A 17-year-old juvenile, of Freeport, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (immediately accessible) and unlawful possession of cannabis (10-30 grams).

All four are considered innocent until proven guilty.
