Fire Departments warn of dangers of turkey fryers

(CBS) -- Thanksgiving is the number one day in the United States for residential fires, and fire crews are now warning families to be careful when using a popular way to cook turkeys.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ran a demonstration showing the dangerous flames that could come from frying a turkey this Thanksgiving.

They say when the fryers have large amounts of oil, that oil could splash out and cause severe burning when a frozen turkey is put in.

The National Fire Protection Association also discourages the use of oil-containing turkey fryers, and say we should leave the turkey frying to the professionals.
