ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A home is considered a total loss after it catches fire around 5:30p.m. this evening in 900 block of 11th Street.
The fire department found flames coming out of the homes windows when they got to the scene. Firefighters were able to control the fire in six minutes, however the home is considered a total loss.
No one was home at the time of the fire. A dog and a cat were rescued from the home, but unfortunately died from smoke inhalation. The family has one other car that is missing.
The Red Cross is assisting the family. The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.
