ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Winnebago County Sheriff Deputy's K-9 partner helps save a woman's life Wednesday at the Hononegah Forest Preserve.

The Sheriff's department responded around 11:30 a.m. to a caller who said his wife's vacant car was at the Forest Preserve and that he couldn't find her. He also said the missing woman was suicidal.

Deputy Eric Pearson and his K-9 partner Chico searched for the woman from the scent of her clothing.

The K-9 led them to the missing woman alive but unconscious due to a suicide attempt. She was about a quarter mile from the car.

The female was transported to Mercyhealth for treatment.

Responders say the woman most likely would have died if Deputy Pearson and Chico had not found her when they did.
