ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- A wind chill advisory has been issued for Saturday morning for the entire area as bitterly cold temperatures return to the Stateline.
The fresh snowpack on the ground combined with a strong area of high pressure will send temperatures plummeting below zero by Saturday morning. Winds will also be on the increase throughout the day as high temperatures reach the low single digits. This will create dangerous wind chill values near -20 at times through early Saturday afternoon.
Frostbite can occur in less than 30 minutes in these conditions. If you are heading outdoors dress in several layers and limit the amount of exposed skin.
If you plan to travel, ensure your vehicle has a winter weather survival kit that includes blankets, water, non-perishable food items and a backup power source for your cell phone should you need to call for help.
The bitter cold will stick around through early next week. More wind chill advisories will likely be issued through the new year as overnight temperatures continue to remain below zero.
