ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- On August 10, 2017 at approximately 9:32 a.m., a Rockford Police Department officer encountered a suspicious subject while patrolling the 1000 block of School Street. The subject began to flee on foot as the officer was approaching.
After a brief pursuit, additional officers responded to the scene. The subject, identified as 29-year-old NIcholas Falls of Rockford, surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.
Upon further investigation, officers learned Falls had discarded a gun during the pursuit. The gun was recovered and was previously reported stolen in a burglary. Falls, a convicted fellon, is currently on parole with the Illinois Department of Corrections. Winnebago County State's Attorney conducted an investigation which resulted in the authorization of the following charges against Falls:
Unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a stolen gun
Falls was also wanted on a failure to appear warrant and a parole violation warrant. He was transported to the Winnebago County Jail and lodged.
The charges against Falls are merely accusations and he is presume innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
