City takes action after neighbors raise concerns over questionable massage parlor

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Neighbors say there were many red flags from a Rockford massage parlor that led them to question the owners intentions. Now that business sits condemned.

The massage parlor in question located at 728 North Prospect was only open for a few days.

After a flood of calls from concerned neighbors to area aldermen, they found out about the business's postings on Backpage.com, a classified advertising website that is known for illicit activity. Neighbors also say cars would drive by late at night and the neon massage signs also left them second guessing the business' motives.

"Rockford is open for business, but definitely not this kind of business," says 3rd ward Alderman Chad Tuneberg. "The other alderman and I, we got right on it, connecting with city staff to figure out what was going on because everything that we know, and we knew, this wasn't a legal operation," says 2nd ward alderman Jonathan Logemann.

The city cited the business for plumbing issues. The business will also be fined for doing work without a permit.
