UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The YMCA of Rock River Valley Board of Directors has named a new CEO.
The board voted to name Brent Pentenburg the organization's new CEO. Pentenburg has been the interim CEO for two and a half month.
Pentenburg began his career with the YMCA as a day camp counselor more than ten years ago. The Rockford Register Star named him a Person to Watch in 2016.
Pentenburg is involved with several local organizations including the Rockford Regional Health Council Board of Directors, Youth for Christ, the Rotary Club of East Rockford and Cherry Valley and Stateline Church.
Pentenburg assumes the role of CEO immediately.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The CEO of the YMCA of Rock River Valley will be resigning on November 10, 2017 to join as CEO at the YMCA of the Greater Syracuse in Syracuse, New York.
Brown says the decision was not easy as he had to consider his family and his career.
“This decision did not come easy, but allows my family to be closer to relatives and an opportunity to advance in my career. I am thankful to the volunteers, donors, and staff who have remained dedicated to the Y cause and assisted in strengthening our organization,” says Brown.
Mike Brown came to Rockford in 2011 and helped shape the local YMCA. During Brown’s tenure, t annual budget was increased to $12 million from $8 million, assumed operations of the Children’s Learning Center on Rockford’s West side, and Judson University opened a campus at the I.D. Pennock Family YMCA.
The YMCA of Rock River Valley Board of Directors is launching a nationwide search for Brown’s replacement. The YMCA of Great Syracuse is among the top 90 YMCA’s in North America.
