BYRON, Ill (WIFR) -- The two cooling towers at Byron’s generating station are celebrating 30 years of keeping their operation clean and safe.
The Exelon Generation Nuclear Plant says it’s equipment like their simulator inside their training center that helps keep their operations running smoothly and keeps their licensed employees trained if an emergency happens at the nuclear plant. In an open house next Monday, the plant is giving us an inside looking into that training. Operations Training Manager Robert Lawlor says he hopes the behind the scenes tour gives local families a better understanding of the work that goes on at the plant.
“To get an idea of all the things happening behind the scenes to make sure our operators are controlling the reactors and doing it in a safe error free manor and their receiving training to protect the public and make them feel satisfied,” says Lawlor.
The Byron station will hold an open house inside its training center on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. If you’d like to register for the open house, please click the attached related link.
