Bringing more tourism to Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Rockford Area Conventions and Visitors Bureau shares their plans during their quarterly tourism talks.

The group highlights their marketing initiatives and the steps they're taking to reach out to the nation and world to bring visitors to the area.

Efforts include a blog as well as reaching out to national media outlets regarding positive local stories like Rockford Police Rock Houses and the Bruce Munro "Light" exhibit at Nicholas Conservatory.

"We're always trying to look three or four months out so we know people make their travel arrangements definitely in advance. There are spontaneous travelers but many people like to plan their trips, see what's to come, see what new festivals or events may be in the coming year," says RACVB director of marketing and public affairs Josh Albrecht.

RACVB is currently preparing for Stroll on State. They say more than 75,000 people attended last year's event. They expect even more to attend with the addition of a 5K and parade this year.
