Brian Leggero no longer running for lieutenant governor

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Brian Leggero is no longer in the running for Illinois lieutenant governor. The former Rockford mayoral candidate was expected to be on a ticket with Republican governor candidate William J. Kelly. Monday, Kelly announced he would run as an Independent instead.

Leggero says he is not interested in running as Independent and wants to remain loyal to the Republican party.

He released a statement saying "I was blindsided by William's decision. I run for office because I want to serve the public and make that office, city, county or state much better than it was before. Unfortunately, that was cut short due to circumstances beyond my control."
