WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) – The millions in spending have created concern for eight departments that will now see thousands taken from their 2018 budget.
Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office will lose $4.3 million. The Recorder of Deeds will lose $300,000. After an amendment approved last night, the State’s Attorney’s budget will see $200,000 in cuts instead of the proposed $300,000. The Public Defender budget will be cut $150,000 instead of $250,000. That also goes for the Circuit Court, the Circuit Clerk, and probation. The Coroner also saw $75,000 taken from the budget.
“We’ve had several years of declining or flat revenues, but increases in a number of areas we had to kind of reset. It’s a very painful process and a tough time,” says County Board Chairman, Frank Haney.
In total, the budget was cut by $6.8 million; however, nearly $1.3 million comes from reserve spending that the county will not be dipping into for the 2018 fiscal year.
