Police say body found in Rock River is a 62-year-old woman

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz says the body recovered from the Rock River near Bypass 20 Thursday afternoon is a 62-year-old woman from Rockford.

He says identity will be released after family notification.

Hintz also says the body appeared to have been in the Rock River for a short time.

Rockford police are looking into the possibility that the victim was previously reported missing and suicidal.

Rockford police officers and Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call just before noon between 11th and South Main streets.

No foul play is suspected at this time.

A crash near the scene is backing up traffic in the westbound lanes on Bypass 20.
