ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- As the winter storms and flu season roll around, local blood centers are in a greater need of blood donors to come out and donate during National Blood Donors’ Month.
Lou Bachrodt Auto Aall and Q98.5 hosted the annual Straight from the Heart Donor Day blood and marrow drive. The Rock River Valley Blood Center says it’s in need of all blood types. With the flu spreading, a lot of healthy blood donors are not able to donate, so they are asking people who haven't donated in a while or new donors to think about donating.
"The one pint that people donate today will help save up to 3 lives. One in 3 people need a blood transfusion in their lifetime, so you just never know if the blood that you might need or a loved one will need is going to be on our shelves to help a patient in need," said Kristin Kamman, a donor recruiter with the Rock River Valley Blood Center.
Donors received bundtinis from Nothing Bundt Cakes, at-shirt, and a coupon for a free pizza from Papa John's for donating Saturday.
To donate you can visit any of the Rock River Valley Blood Centers, which you can find at rrvbc.org.
