Bicyclists shop locally during Bike the Blocks event

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The River District Association along with I Bike Rockford is working to get people shopping downtown while getting a different view of the city while riding on two wheels.

Bike the Blocks is the River District’s second event in its shop the blocks summer series. State Street from Wyman to Second Street was closed off to allow shoppers to bike through the streets. A healthy living expo was also set up to teach people about bike safety and the rules of the road. Organizers say the event is encourage people to get on their bikes, ride around downtown and visit our unique local shops.

"I'm all for bike the blocks, we're a pretty bike friendly business. A lot of our employees actually bike to work, which is really awesome so we're totally in support of the biking community and anything that we can do to help them is something that's always on our radar,” said owner of Rockford Art Deli Britney Lindgren.

Many Limebikes were also available for those who didn't have a bike so everyone could have the chance to bike the blocks.
