Bicyclists brave the cold for the Spring 2018 Alleycat Race

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Although the weather conditions weren't the best for biking Sunday, that didn't stop some people from hopping on on a bicycle and riding all around downtown.

The Fly by Night bicycling club hosted its spring 2018 Alleycat race. A scavenger hunt on bikes. Dozens of people gathered at Davis Park Sunday afternoon before heading out on the hunt. The bicyclists were given a list of checkpoints and had to figure out the fastest way to get to spots that were placed around downtown. Organizers say they hope to get more people biking around Rockford.

"It's kind of like a free for all. You got to choose your own route. Some people take the competition really seriously and some people just do it for the ride. I mean it's just a cool way to get on the bike," said event organizer Andy Eclov.

Winners of Sunday's race were given a custom made messenger bag. Organizers say they hope to start planning for the next Alleycat race in the near future and are also hoping for warmer weather.
