LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Loves Park gun shop is robbed twice in one week and investigators are asking for our help in solving the case.
A reward is being offered to anyone with information that leads to convicting the suspects.
"Even one's a large number if you think about it. But then you're looking at 24, I mean, that's huge," said Assistant Special Agent in Charge for The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Brendan Iber.
24 guns stolen in less than two weeks and KAP Guns is left with the aftermath.
ATF, along with Loves Park Police and the National Shooting Sports Foundation hope to jump-start the investigation.
The trio is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to the conviction of the suspects.
"Any successful investigation, the public has to be involved. We can't do this on our own, so we encourage and we hope that they come out, especially with this reward," said Iber.
Security video from KAP Guns shows the burglary on Dec. 15 when two suspects took 11 handguns and from Dec. 2 when two suspects stole 13 guns.
"They obviously didn't steal them to go duck-hunting, you know, so they, they're gonna end up on the street," said Iber.
ATF agents will work with stores to protect merchandise, but gun shop owners say the problem is much bigger.
"There's only so much that we can do. There's only so much the police can do. It goes down to our justice system, I believe," said KAP Guns owner Kenny Polhamus.
"They're gonna affect the public, I mean, in any way. Either they're gonna be sold or they're gonna be used in other crimes. We need to get them back," said Iber.
Loves Park Police aren't sure if the two cases are connected, but they say the suspects in the two burglaries look similar.
