Rockford man arrested following carjacking

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Rockford police met with a 26-year-old female victim who was confronted by the male gunman who has now been identified as 19-year-old Joel Jackson.

After Jackson fled the scene, police located the vehicle in the 5700 block of Forest Hills Rd. just before 11:00 last night. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over but Jackson rammed the police car and fled northbound on Forest Hills Rd. Jackson eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed at Forest Hills Rd. and East Riverside Blvd. and was taken into custody.

Neither the officers nor Jackson suffered any injuries.

Jackson was charged with the following:

Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking
Aggravated Fleeing to Elude
Possession of Stolen Auto
Criminal Damage to State Supported Property
Aggravated Assault to Police Officer
Resisting
Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident
No Valid Driver’s License

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Police responded to the 300 block of North Avon St. last night around 6:50 in regards to an aggravated vehicular hijacking.

The victim was in the passenger seat of a green Pontiac Bonneville when a black male entered the drivers side of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim.

Police say the suspect ordered the victim out of the car and then fled southbound. No one was injured in this incident.
