UPDATE: 21-year-old Rockford man named after colliding with tree

CHERRY VALLEY, Ill. (WIFR) -- The 21-year old man killed in a car accident has been identified.

21-year old Jacob Courtney was killed in a car accident after he collided with a tree in Cherry Valley.

His death is currently under investigation by the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department.

CHERRY VALLEY, Ill. (WIFR) -- A 21-year-old man dies in an early morning accident after colliding with a tree in Cherry Valley.

The Winnebago County Coroner's Office pronounced Jacob Courtney of Rockford dead after his vehicle struck a tree near the intersection of Mill Road and Kindlewood Trail in Cherry Valley around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Officials say Courtney was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The death is under investigation by the Rockford Police Department. An Autopsy is pending by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
