BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) - A 16-year-old Belvidere North student is arrested for allegedly making threats to the school.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department says several students went to the school resource officer Tuesday about a threat on a bathroom wall. Following the threat, a greater police presence was made at the high school Wednesday.

The sheriff's department along with Belvidere School District 100 worked throughout the night to identify a suspect and determine the threat's legitimacy.

The juvenile has been charged with felony disorderly conduct and could receive additional charges as the sheriff's department investigates.

The sheriff's department says parents and students are encouraged to report any information on these cases and that parents should talk to students about the severity of threats. Investigators say offenders will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The juvenile is considered innocent until proven guilty.
