OREGON (WIFR) -- Oregon is ready for cowboys and Indians this weekend, but don’t forget about the tipis, the gunsligners and the cowboy stew. It's all hail to the chief as the city celebrates its famous Native American statue this weekend.

Step back in time this weekend as Oregon celebrates its history of Native Americans and early settlers. Visitors can sleep in the tipi city at Lowden State Park and enjoy plenty of food and history throughout the weekend. Some will even walk inside the famous Black Hawk statue that overlooks the Rock River and Oregon. Proceeds from the festival will help to repair massive cracks and chips in the 100-year-old concrete statue.

"You can pay $5 a person and go in and see,” says committee member Beth Henderson. “There's legends that you can go up and look out his eyes, but you have to come and find out what the real secret is. All that money goes 100 percent to the restoration of the statue."

We have plenty of other stories from our Ogle County Hometowns right here, at 23Hometowns. Log on now to see what new Hometowns are coming very soon!
