Private Second Class Cody Wickham, an engineer was only a few buildings away from the shooting. Wickham's mother, Kim White was at work when she got a text message from her son. It said someone went ballistic and shot 21 people. White tried to calling her son numerous times after getting the message, but her calls weren't getting through. It was several hours later when she finally learned he was okay.

"What was going through my mind was my kid went to the Army to be a soldier and he's at his base and he shouldn't have to be going through this yet. I shouldn't have to be worried about my kid being O.K. on this base. We shouldn't have to worry about that until Iraq," said White.

White says she is excited to see Cody in a few weeks when he comes home for Thanksgiving. Wickham will deploy to Iraq on March third.
