A Rockford girl scout receives the prestigous silver award tonight for bringing respect and honor to the flag of her country. Cassie ayars earned this award by teaching younger girl scouts about flag ettiquette, encouraging them to write letters to U.S. soldiers and having them draw on quilts being sent to U.S. veteran hospitals. she says she was inspired to do this when she noticed bystanders at a parade ignoring the flag.
"They didn't know what to do and so I wanted to tell the next generation about how you should respect the flag." says Cassie.
The girl scout Silver Award is the highest award that a scout of Cassie's rank can earn. Congratulations Cassie!
