As an emergency responder who has responded to hundreds of emergencies and extricated sons, daughters, moms and dads our of vehicles. It is simple, leave a few minutes earlier, think ahead just a little bit and be polite to other drivers and tolerant of those idiots that will not change for anybody. How many times has somebody sped past you only for you to see them at the next light. We all know somone who has been in accident due to recklessness. Rockford drivers please slow down, pay attention and GET OFF THE PHONE!

Ok, first things first, all of you who are always in such a "hurry" to get where ever it is you are going, just imagine how difficult getting there will be if you are say DEAD, which by the way is a very real possiblity when you drive so recklessly. Additionally, aside from risking your own life, you risk the lives of those around. Rest assured, if you take the life of someone I love, you better hope you go with them. Now for all you No Turn Signal using people out there, why don't you just pull over and kick out your turn signals since you aint using them anyway? Those little amber lights (yes I know some are red) are there for a reason. Tell ya what, you think cutting off people in traffic is fun, try prying your near lifeless body out from under a 80,000 pound semi-truck! Bet you'll reconsider your choice to not use the turn signals. And last, but not least, come on people, this IS the mid-west and we do get this snow every year! Lets act like we have some sense!

machesney park and loves park is the same way as rockford. i drive through all of them and very little people use turn signals. people cutting you off then stop all of a sudden for nothing.a lot of people speeding. what is the point in that? i saw a car speed right by me and they didn't get anwhere faster then i did. i had a baby and ever sense i put baby on board sign up it seems like people are driving even worse. speeding in the rain, snow and ice. there should be more cops paying attention to these people braking the law. mayb e getting a ticket would slow them down.

I THINK Rockford Drivers deserve a medal! Thay have to be the best drivers in the world to navigate our landmine of potholes!

I read I forget where, everyone is in such a big hurry but don't seem to care if they get there. Everywhere I've worked has had at least 1 person die in a car wreck, the last place I worked had a guy I worked with and his wife die from a stop sign runner, leaving little girl without parents, and to the people who run the lights, they are not there to slow you down but keep traffic moving fast, did you ever go out driving when power was out? four way stops at every corner, so you see traffic lights are to your benefit.

I think that the city should put the eye in the stop lights for the people who do the hit and run. That way the police can track them on which way they gowhen they run from the crash.

omg, I've never "seen" so many whiners, lol. The drivers in Rockford aren't any more rude than in any other city in the world. Ever driven in Boston? NY?? London?? try it sometime. Cowboy up, people! the only thing I'll say is, some people DO need to learn how to signal their intentions. That's the intended purpose of that little feature that is found on every car: the turn signal. Use it, it helps other drivers have a clue as to what you're about to do and helps avoid accidents. We all appreciate it!! Now, quitcher whining and be good, courteous little drivers and no obscene hand gestures. =)

I've lived in Rockford my whole life so I'm used to stupid drivers, but when I go up north to Janesville it's completely different. I drive down Sandy Hollow a lot, and EVERY time I have an encounter with an idiot either coming or going from the apartment buildings there between Mulford and Alpine. They really need to have closer traffic patrol around there, I don't know how many accidents I've almost gotten in because of people living there. Is it something in the water or what?!

I could go on and on about Rockford drivers, but I will only mention a couple of things. First, if there is an emergency vehicle coming up behind you with lights and sirens on CURB to the RIGHT. Don't slam on your brakes and stop where you are or curb to the left. CURB to the RIGHT. Don't try to out run an emergency vehicle either. And when the light changes green for them, don't pull out if front of them. I know we get snow and people have places to go. And I know we are suppose to driver carefully. That also doesn't mean go 5 miles per hour either. IF you are that nervous then don't drive when snowing out. I also agree with what Scott said. I thought there was a law about staying in the right lane anyway unless passing. I also agree with PJ.

Part of Rockford's problem is that the driver's exam is a joke! In Montana you need to answer 125 questions with only five wrong in order to pass. In addition, the instructors make sure that you can actually handle the car (imagine). I for one, believe that showing our kids and violators videos of what can happen during auto accidents would help. I also feel that winter driving courses should be mandatory and include how to handle a car when it is a skid.

Two main things that are wrong with the drivers in this area. Number one: They drive at or below the limit in the passing lane right next to the car in the slow lane. Number two: People in this area are the rudest bunch of people I have ever dealt with. I did'nt know people could be as rude as the people in this area. It is shameful!

I don't think it's just Rockford drivers that have changed their driving habits. It seems too many of us must have watched the movie Starman. Red means stop. Green means go. Yellow means go real fast. After learning to drive like Starman I think some people question how red is that light. I know I am guilty to some degree but when I make a decision to go through a light that has turned yellow and then think maybe I should have stopped, I look in my mirror and see three or four cars come through behind me.

People don't care how they drive these days. Speed, blow stop signs and stop lights, cut others off. I saw 2 cars driving being driven north bound in the south bound lanes on Perryville north of Rt 173. I watch them while waiting at the stop light. Neither of them even thought of turning around. Why send anyone through drivers ed class. The kids will do the right stuff to pass. Once they get there license, they don't care how they drive.

A little change to the stopped school bus law. It is now easier for the bus driver. All he needs is a make and model, plus license plate number for the police. When they come to your home and you say that you were not driving and you don't know who was, the police will be taking the plates off the car. So stop for school buses because they are carrying you kids.

There are some things they don't teach in driver's ed. One is how not to drive like a moron in the winter. Don't drive to fast in the snow, that way you don't have to constantly keep stepping on the brakes because the guy in front of you is 8 blocks away and you see brake lights. How about using that turn signal its the law. Oh, one more thing when you see flashing yellow lights on a school bus that means that the flashing red lights are coming on soon, so don't speed up, slow down. You pass a stopped school bus you will lose that license for 6 months automaticly.
