Round-About on Auburn St. and N. Main St.
Concerning the round about on Auburn St. and N. Main St. in Rockford.  The problem which 9th ward Alderman Bill Timms and I had a discussion about months ago, that N. Main St. Rockford is a state road, thus, tractor trailers that are 53 feet plus cab 65 - 72 feet And buses over the road,  at 45 feet and fire ladder trucks that are 53 feet long.  Are all accessible to off track of the rear wheels when going around.  I watched in south bend at the airport road they have 3 of them and it takes all the room to go around with a big vehicle.  The truck goes over the inside curb which people could be standing their and be in danger of getting injured.  A bad idea for that area of Auburn and N. Main St.

A "round-about" is an insane idea at any location!! What on earth are they thinking! I have experienced the round-about in DesPlaines/Mt. Prospect area where Rte 58 & Wolf Rd meet. It's horrible! You have to find a 'spot' to jump into traffic and then be in the correct position to make your "escape" out of it & onto the street you want to continue on. Go drive around it and see for yourselves! And that one has ALOT MORE SPACE around it too! At Main & Auburn there's barely any room for a sidewalk now! How many buildings will have to be torn down to make room for a stupid round-about?? There is absolutely no benefit in having one. It's nothing but a safety hazzard for drivers and pedestrians, not to mention the trucks, busses, and emergency vehicles that need to get thru that intersection. ROUND-ABOUT IS A STUPID IDEA AND WASTE OF MONEY!DID YOUR BRAINS FALL OUT OF YOUR HEAD???

After spending how much money to to put in new curbs, lights and blacktop, they want to tear it out and put in a round a bout. I have seen and driven on multi lane round a bouts in Germany. You do not have 53' semis in Germany. Our drivers are not used to these and it just won't work. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Just a waste of taxpayer money. Just use the money to widen the rest of N Main north of Auburn.

A complete joke!! Most people in Rockford cannot merge on ramps at Spring Creek and 251, they STOP. How then, will people merge in close quarters. If you let traffic flow east AND west AND north AND south at the same time, the intersection WON'T get backed up!!!! But that would take logic!!

I chat with a friend of mine from London England on the internet and told her about the round a bout, she laughed and said that was funny ! She said how are you yanks going to drive on that thing. She also said that it would be stupid to put one in. I said that`s nothing, the city dose stupid thing`s all the time. This would`nt be nothing new around here !

i think if we install a roundabout in that intersection , the only thing we will get for our money are traffic fatalities. how about fire trucks? how you gonna get your hook and ladder through the intersection at 30 mph? yuou wont. the only people in that area who are for the roundabout are old man altamore and the development company who oiwns the gas station, why? they want to sell these otherwise non-viable properties, the best was to revitalize that corner is to demolish the buildings and put them on the parking lots in back , and install off street parking.

Posted by: Norma I have lived near a town with a roundabout. It works for that town, there is a statue in the middle of the town roundabout. But for Rockford: a roundabout would take too much room, a lot of structures plus the statue on the northeast corner would have to be removed. Besides that, Rockford drivers are the rudest I've ever encountered ANYWHERE that I've traveled, and they would run over each other rather than follow the rules that a roundabout requires. Too many people being too pushy and rude! It would only cause more accidents, delays, and traffic congestion instead of solving anything!

doing a round about is a waste of tax payers money widen the corners with turn laynes and that enough

Posted by: Ron Any round-about will be too confusing to drivers who have no experience with this type of intersection. Therefore causing more accidents, blocking the entire intersection, causing more delays. Drivers will not know who yields or has the right away. Multiple lane round-abouts are even more complicated. Making lane changes is even more difficult than a lane change on a straight lane.

Posted by: polish cowboy I believe it's a bad idea also. It would probably cause more accidents and confuse the drivers. A lot of school buses travel those roads also and a lot of semi's.
