The Chicago Cubs Caravan will not be making a stop in Rockford during their regular scheduled program for 2008.
For over 25 years, the Cubs Caravan has been supported by area Cub's fans raising in excess of $187,500 for youth baseball programs through the Boys & Girls Club of Rockford. These funds have provided baseball scholarships to over 4,000 youth since the caravan's inception.
"This year we are challenged by management to reach out to different groups and communities with our caravan stops. The Community Affairs Department has a limited number of resources available. We realize the Boys & Girls Club of Rockford relies on the Cubs visit to help raise funds for their organization, however we regrettably will not be able to host a caravan stop in Rockford this year", said Mary Dosek, Community Relations, Cubs Organization.
"It's unfortunate that the nearly 800 Cubs fans each year that support the Cubs Caravan and the Boys & Girls Club will not have the opportunity to meet the players and staff in a local setting.
