| Using Your Credit Card Wisely Can Actually Save You Money |
Buy everything on credit. From vehicle gas to groceries, but most importantly, pay the card off every month. That way you pay no interest and get 1% of all the money you spend back in points. You can usually get cash back too, but credit card companies give you a fraction of a percent in return. If you buy things with their points you can usually get a higher return. One of the best items to buy with points are gift cards.
For example, American Express offers home depot gift cards in a number of denominations as low as $25 card for 2500 points. So if you are funneling your daily expenses through the card, it is really easy to generate the points needed. Then you can go to home depot and buy something for "free" to fix up your house.
Another great thing about credit cards is that you can link up your bank account and pay online. Instead of messing around with a bulky bill and statement every month (remember stamp costs add up too!) you can easily login online any pay the balance off (as many times as you want each month!). That way you can make sure exactly how much you owe and also avoid letting the balance from building up.
If you are really clever you can pay the full balance once each month, which allows you to generate interest in an interest bearing checking account at your bank in the meantime.
