DTV converter box applications and coupons won’t be available until after the first of the year. At this time the National Telecommunications and Information Administration hasn’t released information on how to apply for the coupons. At a recent meeting with the National Association of Broadcasters we learned that coupons will not be distributed until area stores have stocked the converter boxes. This could be as late as March or April.

When information on how to apply for these coupons is distributed we will broadcast the information during 23 News and commercial announcements on 23 WIFR and 23 WeatherNow. The information will also be posted on wifr.com.

Converter boxes are only needed if you receive our signal over the air and if you don’t have a TV set with a digital tuner. If you receive our signal through a cable company or satellite service you have nothing to worry about.

This doesn't seem like the time to make things harder on everyone, I'm a senior on fixed income, where is the extra money coming from to buy box? This just seems like a way for someone to make a lot of cash. I think our govenors actions are enough to bear now with all the other problems we have.

Right now all the coupons are gone however $15 million dollars worth are not redeemed. These coupons will expire after 90 days so you can apply for the coupons and get on a waiting list for coupons that don't get used. To get on this waiting list visit www.dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-dtv-2009.
